CS Major at Top School -> Investment Banking
Is majoring in CS a positive or negative when it comes to IB recruiting? I go to Northwestern, am in the engineering school, and will have a 3.7 GPA. I am also minoring in business institutions and all of my clubs/organizations are business/finance related.
I almost shit myself when I saw 'Northwestern' (misread it for Northwestern Mutual)
Yes, Northwestern Mutual has an undergrad program now. Spinoff of Trump University. Very rigorous
Great reputation on the street, heard SoftBank is the main investor with NW being headed by Adam Neumann
A cs/math/engineering major accompanied by a high GPA often connotes raw intelligence and a strong critical thinking ability, so naturally it is viewed in a positive light during IB recruiting. However, a lack of articulative ability or communication and qualitative skills would more than negate whatever benefit is derived from the STEM major/high GPA. The best candidates have both.
shouldn't it connote analytical ability as opposed to critical thinking ability?
A strong analytical ability is largely a function of critical thinking/problem-solving — they are inherently linked. Take math exams for instance: at higher levels, very little is about memorization — it is mostly about how you’re able to figure out problems on the spot and put the pieces of the puzzle together on the day of the exam.
