Current High School Senior. What should I do?

Hey guys,

Sorry if I sound ridiculous or weird because I am very new to this forum. So pretty much, I want to get into banking/finance but I am not sure how to get into it. I recently applied to colleges and have received a few good acceptances. However, I applied econ for most of them because my mom kind of pushed me against applying for business school. Unfortunately, I am just not realizing that I really just want to pursue a business-related degree. I have a passion for finance/investment and I wish I had realized it earlier but it's ok.

So obviously I am not in the ideal position but not a bad position either. Here are my top options: Boston U, McGill, UW seattle, UW Madison (all for econ).I also got into CU boulder and Cal Poly for Business but I am not too into those schools. I am leaning towards Mcgill but I would like to hear what you guys think. Mcgill would be half the price of the other options btw. I would be able to make any of them work but McGill for 30k a year sounds good to me.

Regardless of where I attended school next year I would try to transfer into the business/management programs for finance. However, transfers are not guaranteed at all which worries me. Should I go to a school where I can 100% get a BCom or should I take a chance at one of the higher-ranked schools? If I major in econ will I still have a chance at getting internships with any companies? I could minor in finance or something like that too. I would say I'm a pretty outgoing and likable person so networking would definitely be a strong suit but that may not be enough.

Considering my situation, what would you guys suggest? I know this is going to be an uphill battle lol. Let me know if you guys have any other questions btw. Again, I know I sound cringe but I genuinely need advice/guidance.

Hey don't worry about it. If I were you, I'd go with McGill if you're looking to stay in Canada, as its a pretty solid Canadian target and will help you do well in recruiting. Not sure what ends you're from but if you applied to Western Ivey AEO or Queens Commerce, those are probably the topmost Canadian targets in my opinion (Ivey #1). For the US schools you've named they don't necessarily sound like the best US targets or borderline targets but at the same time, I don't know too much about US outside of target recruiting. In terms of a BCom program or transfers, you should know that recruiting has dramatically moved up pretty much everywhere for IB so transferring would hold you back especially if certain schools' degree requirements don't match up. All in all, if you're looking to go/stay in Canada McGill is a solid choice

Compared to other Canadian Targets? No, McGill is probably third or fourth to Ivey and Queens, and then you can slot another top-tier Canadian Business School in at the third spot for banking if fourth. However McGill is still a very good school and should be more than fine to help break into IB. Again, not too familiar with non-targets in the US, so can't help you much there. Since you're a US citizen I'm guessing, there's no visa problem if you wanna head back to the states so all in all McGill is a solid choice. Just recruiting backwards is a bit tougher (Canada to US).
