Current sophomore without professional summer work advice

I’m a second semester sophomore (junior standing) studying finance and math at a lower tier semi target school in the northeast. I’ve applied to 40+ internships for this summer but nothing has ended up working out, with many applicant pools open to college students of all ages and mba students. Anyone have any advice on what I should do this summer (aside from network and apply to 2022 internships) to better my odds of landing a summer internship for next summer?
