CVC Capital Partners case study - Investment team

Hi all,

I have a second round interview with CVC Capital Partners and this is when they give a modelling test and case study. I haven't received much instruction on what it is going to be like so would greatly appreciate advice from anyone who has had experience with this stage of the CVC process.

I am wondering if it will be a data dump and 2-3h integrated modelling test and case study (i.e. build an LBO to buy the asset in the case study and then present the LBO results as well as the assessment of the case study as if you were doing it to a mock IC), or building a 3-statement model for 1h and then doing a completely separate consulting-style case study for another 1h (i.e. test basic financial/modelling skills and commercial skills separately), or perhaps a DCF of sorts, etc.?

They have a mix of consultants and bankers in the fund, so they might also provide different modelling tests/case studies for consultant vs. banker candidates.

Any steer from fellow monkeys would be great.

Thanks!

Hi. Just out of interest, which recruitment firm do they use? Unless it’s done in-house...

Speaking for most LBO PE case studies, and please don't use this as a proxy for the CVC case, while you won't get a data dump, you'll certainly get either financials in excel or something like a CIM. The latter definitely forces you to parse through more information in the sense that it is more of a data dump, but I've mostly seen the that the CIM is used for LMM/MM PE case studies and not larger funds.

Almost always will be a 3-statement LBO and sometimes coupled with an IC memo depending on whether it is a "take-home" type of case or in person at their offices or something of the like (sometimes these are hosted at a law firm's office in a large conference room with a number of candidates around you). I've never seen a totally separate case study done outside of the LBO case - and pretty much never a DCF :) For most situations when you get the case involving the memo in addition to the model, you'll most likely be asked to present your thesis to a small group as if you were in front of an IC.
