Data Analyst or Operations Analyst

I received two job offers this week, one from a more well known hedge fund in CT for a data analyst position, and one from a korean asset manager for an operations analyst role in which there's lots of room for lateral/vertical movement within the company. My goal is to eventually get to a research position at a HF, and currently hold my CFA Level I, taking Level II this year. I currently work as a BA at a BB, but team isn't great so need to move. Which job would be better to eventually reach that goal? Thanks in advance

Sure, this is data analyst role: Overview IT Data Services is responsible for back office pricing as well as time series data for trading/modeling/analysis. We work closely with other departments within Management & Control to ensure the accuracy and best practices in security valuation, compliance, risk management, and other operational areas key to _____'s continued success. We also work closely with various front office groups, helping them leverage existing data and delivering new data sets Responsibilities: - The Data Analyst will assist in reviewing processes and technologies to improve data accuracy, timeliness, and efficiency. - The Data Analyst will regularly interact with users of ____'s financial data to identify, access, and query series of interest in -----’s internal databases, including a third party tick database. These groups include but are not limited to Trading, Global Research, Middle Office, Risk, and Compliance. - For new projects or data-related production changes, the Data Analyst will determine detailed specifications and resource requirements and coordinate prioritization and approval with other groups. Will test content for proper QA and review/approve for production release. - When new data services are needed, the Data Analyst will evaluate potential data sources and cost/resources. - The Data Analyst will work with our offshore Data Operations team to oversee their processes, which include cross checking, verifying and updating security and economic data. He/She will serve as an escalation point for Level II requests from this team.

Operations role doesn't have job description because I went through connection, but its a traditional operations buy side role, working with a team of 3, have to learn very quickly, fund trades everything under the sun except for CDO's, the goal would be to sit there for a year, move onto trading desk then move to research (my friend at this firm did this path so definitely possible)
