DE Shaw - Which group to choose?

Summer Analyst Position at DE Shaw. Option of choosing out of 4 groups - which to choose?

Could you give me backgrounds on each division and what they do - lifestyle, work, salary, exit opps, etc.

  • Long-Short Equity
  • Credit Opportunities
  • Special Situations Arbitrage
  • Asset-Backed Securities

I would say it depends on your interests and talents. Those are very different groups. I don't know that much about Shaw other than L/S Equity. The thing to know about equities is that most people say that it's difficult to get out of equities once you start in equities. However, if you start in fixed income or credit, you still can switch to equities later. I would go based off of which group you connect more with. Congrats if you got this offer, that's very impressive.
