Deferred MBA programs

I'm an incoming first-year analyst at a mid-tier BB in a coverage group currently at a top 20 school. I know I don't want to go into PE/HF after two years, but loved my internship and learned a lot so might stay for A2A (pretty unlikely but a possibility) or move to corporate strategy.

Does anyone know anything about getting into deferred MBA programs if you're going into IB? I'm trying to decide if I should spend the year studying for GMAT and applying to deferred MBAs. Looking at cohort statistics on HBS/GSB/Wharton websites, it seems like most people don't come from business backgrounds. I am a diversity candidate so that could help, but I feel like the top schools are looking for non-business candidates for these programs.

Is it worth it to spend my senior year preparing for GMAT and writing apps? Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Know a few people who have gotten into deferred programs going into IB, it's very doable.

Personal recommendation though is to really figure out of business school is in the cards for you. Sounds like you go to a good undergrad school with a solid network and may not need business school. If you want to move into corporate strategy or go A2A then an MBA is definitely not required and it'll save you a lot of $ skipping it. Recall that direct costs could be around $150-200k, then opportunity cost of say $150k per year leads to ~$500k down the drain. In your early 20's you most likely won't save much $ simply bc of taxes, HCOL city, rent, and going out.

I think an MBA is more worth it for people who want to make a big career transition, which may or may not be for you. I think it doesn't hurt to maybe study for the GMATs and take it before you graduate but applying to a deferred program takes a lot of time and effort, not sure you want to spend senior year like that.
