Delaying start date of summer internship to July?
I'll be on an off-cycle internship from Jan to end June next year. So I just want to ask, is it possible to delay the start date of a summer program to early July?
I understand some summer internships have structured training program, which means the start date is not flexible.
Does anyone know of any summer internship (at BB or MM) that do not have a structured program?
Moving Internship Start Date to July? (Originally Posted: 03/11/2013)
I'm not able to start an internship this summer until the front of July (various issues at home), and I wanted to ask about the possibility of moving my start date back from early June to early July.
Is this possible in IBD or S&T, bulge brackets, middle market or boutiques? Obviously it depends on firm (and I'll certainly ask for places where I have an offer outstanding), but IN GENERAL, is this sort of thing feasible?
If there is a structured program then no, if you are just working at some random boutique for the summer without any opportunity for an offer then probably yes
NY Summer Analyst Start Dates vs. Study Abroad (Originally Posted: 11/11/2009)
sup guys,
quick question, do you guys know when NY IBD start dates usually fall around? Doing study abroad next semester... and the exam week begins June 23rd- July 1st.
I'm aware that this is DEFINITELY too late. I talked to the progrma coordinator and I could push it a week- assume I can get back to the US By June 20th-- is this close enough?
Fwiw, i know HK IBD usually starts on June 22nd ish.
bump, anyone?
see PM
most interviews are held in jan/feb for BB's... GS HK actually started on the 8th last year and a couple of BBs start before 20th. just fyi. also i heard study abroad decreases your shot at BB
Usually early to mid-June.
Spring Study Abroad Dates (Originally Posted: 01/09/2008)
Hey guys. So, I want to study abroad next spring, which is the spring b/f my junior year. However, at the place I want to study abroad, the semesters are a little different than in the U.S. and would start in Feb and end in June which really does not leave time for a summer internship anywhere. I want to do ibanking, however, should I forgo studying abroad to pursue a summer analyst position for the next summer?
Try studying abroad in the fall of your junior year. You miss the networking opportunities and information sessions, but those can be made up in the spring of junior year.
You really need work experience before applying for an SA for your junior summer.
My school only allows for studying abroad in the winter semester (January to May) of third or fourth year. Do you guys think it would be better to study abroad in fourth year since if you study in third year, you forfeit a lot of recruiting events and interviewing opportunities(or do you?).
I go to school in Canada and I dont think there are accelerated interviews for people studying abroad. So does that mean that if I study abroad in third year I basically forfeit an internship? Unless I apply while im overseas or something.
Return from Study Abroad - Too Late for a Summer Analyst? (Originally Posted: 10/14/2010)
First the good news - this coming January I'll be on a plane heading to Barcelona and I'm sure with the beach, girls, and nightlife this has potential to be one hell of a semester.
I've posted questions on here before asking about whether leaving in January would conflict with BB recruiting processes for SA positions, but this time my question focuses on the end of the trip not the beginning.
Typically the semester in Europe runs about one month longer than in the US, perhaps longer, and I was curious if anyone on here has started as a SA right after coming back from study abroad?
Did you have to join the internship late because of study abroad? Also, for those people on the forum who are working full time, have you had interns in your office join later in the summer because of similar issues?
switch your barca trip to senior year last semester if this really is going to become an issue. i dont think the firms are all that flexible but also they usually wait til june or so i believe to begin
switching the trip isn't an option at this point due to class requirements, graduation, etc.
I'd have to imagine that there are some kids out there who successfully pulled this off. Even if they landed at a boutique because of the travel times.
most BBs have accelerated interviews for those studying abroad. better start applying right now as interviews usually take place October-December
@mrbellaiche - thanks for the heads up.
my career services office was basically of no help, that's why I wanted to see if anyone on this site had been in a similar spot.
