Delivery of Covid Vaccine
How did the US drop the ball so much on distributing this vaccine? How were people not ready to receive it .... we knew this was coming - what happened?
Israel already vaccinated 20% of their country.

This is what the US government does best.
Well I think you’re underestimating the damage that misinformation has done to the general population. I can bet you at least 25%-30% of the population believes in some conspiracy theory or inaccurate info about the vaccine. Secondly, the Trump administration left the vaccine distribution up to the states. It isn’t centralized. Pfizer/Moderna procure and manufacture the vaccine. The federal government is only handling logistics. In a more perfect situation, the federal government would be involved in all phases of the vaccine rollout.
I am sure they are many reasons but part of the issue might be related to a shortage of health care workers. There should have been some kind of national vaccination strategy like get the medical personnel from the armed forces involved and also give health care workers an extra incentive to do the vaccinations.
Because we live in a third world banana republic. I swear I think the clowns running public health in this country have a median IQ of 90 tops.
Large(r) countries with more population might be a federal republic (example: USA, Germany, India, etc). It is assumed that the federal government of the republic "order" the vaccine with the federal budget, send the estimated amounts to each state and trust the individual states to handle the distribution.
It would be otherwise difficult to understand the local situation of Maui, HI in Washington, D.C. .
Since this is the first pandemic most people are going through, I don't think they had any special training or plan.
Weirdly, I always thought FEMA was the organization to give more guidance on this topic.
Leaving things up to states has been an utter disaster.
Israel is 20% of the VULNERABLE not the entire population. So they vaccinated 20% of 60+year olds.
Because we have boomer idiots like Mitch McConnell and Nancy Pelosi running the country
Agree with this - whether you're republican or democrat, the hate for Pelosi / McConnell is universal.
Seems a bit exaggerated as we are in the very early stages of distribution still. It is gonna go slow then increase exponentially very soon as the holidays end. Lot of focus coming on this now, which probably prompted your post.
Also the US is fourth in vaccines given per capital behind Israel, Bahrain, and the UK.
There’s nothing more American than making a real but manageable problem sound like a total catastrophe lol.
What do you mean? The US government always does a great job.
Now let's give them control over the entire healthcare system and the economy.
Same reason the pandemic got so bad here, the trump administration left everything up to the states on an issue that needs to be handled nationally. Additionally, they've failed to provide funding to the already overburdened state health departments so that they can distribute vaccine. The vaccine program was destined to be a failure without leadership at the top.
Just like testing did, eventually vaccines will ramp up.
Trump is both an authoritarian fascist and a limp-wristed federalist. Would y'all please get your stories straight?
Exactly. I'm certain that if Trump took a more strict approach to handling COVID and the economy inevitably declined as it did irl, these people would be crying "See! I told you he was a fascist!" or "The cure is much worse than the disease!" or "Trump destroyed our economy!" Since he didn't do that, they say "Trump killed 200,000 Americans." He's fucked if he does, fucked if he doesn't.
Oh wow it’s actually possible that he’s both at different times unless you’re a simplistic moron
You're telling me that the Trump administration is less than competent?

Don’t worry CRE Biden’s dusty sacc is almost ready to be succed 😋🤪😰
If he’s awake during any of his meetings.
The Trump administration is incompetent; healthcare should be nationalized and controlled by the federal government and administered by the executive branch.
This is nowhere near the cutting retort you think it is. The Trump administration is not the same as "all administrations," vaccine distribution is an infrastructure and logistics issue - not a healthcare providing issue, and I'm not for nationalized healthcare in the first place.
As much as I like to bash the US when necessary, are they really doing that badly? They're currently 4th in terms of % of population vaccinated according to Bloomberg, well above countries like Russia and China who authorised early use of their own vaccines since August (China authorised early use of 3 vaccines; Sinovac Biotech, CanSino Biologics and Sinopharm). Even as far as absolute number of doses given, the US administered over 3M as of Dec 31 - second only to China with 4.5M (a pretty small number considering the availability of 3 vaccines since the summer). I think they're doing pretty ok for now.
Yes, it’s a clusterfuck. Only just over 10% of the doses we have on hand have been administered. By the Administration’s own words 20 million should have been vaccinated already. Based on our nation’s resources and the amount of vaccine we have on hand and coming available, this is a fail.
Israel’s population is around 9 million. The United States’ population is around 330 million. It’s much more difficult logistically. Asking that is like when people were saying “how does New Zealand have zero cases and the US has so many?” New Zealand is a tiny island nation that can close all its borders very easily, so the comparison makes no sense.
True - I still think the US is lagging though.
Yeah I agree. Hopefully it picks up in the next few weeks. I think two main problems are:
1) Having states individually figure it out instead of a unified national system
2) Trying to prioritize who gets it first. In the next few months, there will be enough doses for everyone. We’re wasting time trying to make sure group A gets it before group B before group C. Every CVS in the country should just have 20 appointment slots per hour that anyone can sign up for, and we do that for 3 months until everyone is done
50% of cargo travels in the belly of passenger planes of which few are flying overseas
All-cargo planes are mostly locked in for peak Christmas
And that’s the easy part
Also government sucks at everything
It's pretty incredible that there are so many people in the US who can't even find out their place in line to get vaccinated, yet foreign countries already have 20% of the entire population vaccinated.
Note that all three companies involved - Moderna, Pfizer, BioNtech are either US based companies or US listed companies that primarily received much of the public market financing from US investors.
Israel is literally the size of fucking New Jersey. No shit it's pretty easy to vaccinate more of their country when you can drive down it in a couple of hours.
So?
No other area in the world, small or big, highly dense population or sparse, received the same treatment.
Yes, because Israel is much more advanced than the uncivilized Africans and other Middle Easterners living in huts or small brick buildings in the desert. Inb4 rAcIsM
Honestly they should have Amazon Prime delivery people distribute the vaccine and we could get it done in a matter of days (ignoring supply constraints of course)
