Deloitte: Human Capital to S&O Switch?

Hey everyone,

I'm currently an Analyst in Deloitte's Human Capital arm and am interested in their S&O group for MBA sponsorship purposes and also a keen interest in strategy work. What are the logistics of switching between the two groups? Does it all come down to making networking contacts in the S&O group and having Partners that can back you? Or is making the switch very unlikely and pretty much a crap shoot.

Thoughts would be appreciated!

S&O = Strategy & Operations

and I don't think a transfer is possible from HC to S&O unless a partner from S&O really wants you in his practise

I work in S&O and I can tell you that it is very unlikely. There are some fairly well defined recruiting channels now in S&O. It is still more likely than if you were in audit, but I would put your odds at 10:1 assuming you do a lot of networking and have stellar performance reviews in your current practice area.

What about coming from OCM? Is there any shot going to S&O?

As Manbearpig said, very difficult, but it is possible.

Best best is to find a way to get staffed on an S&O project, knock it out of the park, and get people to like you. Maybe tag along with a manger/partner to the next project, and continue the relationship. Partner's have the power to make the move happen, they just don't usually want to or care enough to take the time to, unless you give them a reason to.

Moving around at Deloitte is all about getting partners on your side. You can either do that by getting actual partners to like you, or by getting managers/senior managers that partners really trust to like you, so all they have to do is sign the piece of paper.

Again, possible, but it'll take work, and you risk alienating yourself from the HC community and hurting your performance rating if you don't get the switch because of serving on S&O projects.

If you care enough about the switch, you could consider foregoing the sponsorship from HC and looking ton S&O for an internship or full-time opportunity while completing your MBA. It is tough to let the money go in the short term, but long term you would be able to do what you're interested in.

curious if anyone has thoughts on moving to S&O for FT after an internship in HC?

I'd presume it'd be very difficult - a friend has accepted an offer there and wants to consider all options besides recruiting again for MBB.
