Deloitte/Harvard student FIRED for violent BLM joke

Since everyone is talking politics on this forum, I guess I'll hope in. Im curious to see what people think about Claira Janover (tiktok @cjanover) who was recently fired from Deloitte where I believe she already had a return offer for a violent joke on tiktok. As of now, she is still enrolled at Harvard.

She emotional remarked "to the next person who says All lives Matter I will stab you, I will literally stab you! Then while your bleeding out I'll give myself a paper cut and say I'm bleeding too"

IMO this was a very inappropriate joke, (some trump supporters are saying she was legit) but I still think this is absolutely a fireable offense. People get fired for jokes all the time, and I personally was glad to see that there wasn't a double standard: cancel culture works, and should work, both ways. (if it is going to be a thing). If the script was flipped and a conservative said a joke along the same lines he would absolutely be fired. I personally HATE cancel culture and believe most of the firings and expulsions (Yale girl, 13 year old kid Guacamole N-word, Male gentalia (who's parents also got fired btw :(, this girl) were too much. Can't we just suspend and re-educated them... Its a shame, but I must admit in some ways a guilty pleasure, to see someone who promoted cancel culture so publicly have her future impaired by the same toxic systems.

I was surprised and disappointed to see the video- particularly from a Harvard student who should know better than to post that online, and I do hope she gets another chance at finance. Thoughts?

ok LMFAO. the scripts been flipped and now trump supporters are actively participating in cancel culture. Cancel culture will never leave because liberals and conservatives will be stuck in this perpetual battle of canceling each other. I just find it ironic that the same people cancelling this girl are the ones who were vehemently opposed to the same thing just a week ago.

Funniest

And the same people vehemently opposed to her getting fired were supporting this cancel culture just a week ago

You can’t joke about slitting people’s throats and watching them bleed out. That should be common sense but apparently it’s not. The manner in which she said it also didn’t seem super jokey so it’s hard to fall back on that.

Also, generally speaking, the left’s cancel culture has been because people have been voicing their disagreement and often in a pretty benign manner. The rancor that would’ve been directed at this girl if she said that about a black person would’ve melted people’s faces.

True equality is everyone respecting human life equally, but the mob wants equity, not equality. This girl got the equality treatment, sorry it felt too harsh but Deloitte made the right choice. She can be pissed at “Trump supporters” but actions have consequences and her actions should have significantly more severe consequences than academics desiring equal treatment for their students and getting lambasted for it. Instead they got equitable treatment vs. equal.

If someone said they didn't agree with BLM and it went viral, they would also be fired and potentially kicked out of school and the same liberals crying would be issuing death threats. Have a taste of your own fucking medicine.

Controversial

Easy answer don't post stuff online that you wouldn't say in the office and you won't get fired

I'm sick of all this BLM and ALM stuff I grew up in the hood and have had mutiple friends black/white hurt by cops, but I'm not complaining the world is dangerous and racist but atleast the US is generally less dangerous and racist than other countries

Protest prisoners in China, genocide in Israel, or something else that is much worse than the occasional bad apple killing an innocent person

If she had made a Tik Tok explaining in a mature manner that she disliked the ALM movement, this wouldn’t have blown up. I’m not going to comment on the political issue at hand, but people need to start understanding that tone and language are important when expressing your views on the Internet.

Before you post something online, how would you feel if your parents saw it? Your grandma? Your boss? Because all of these people can see them if you put it on a public forum, so it shouldn’t be a surprise when consequences come of this.

There are extreme exceptions where regardless of how you articulate your opinions you will get understandable flack: people making arguments for racism/sexism etc. But the problem here is her threatening to kill people, not the movement she espouses to

It's quite simple. Don't post anything controversial online unless it's anonymous. Don't message people who you don't 100% trust controversial things. If you absolutely must, privately share your thoughts in person (make sure they don't record you). A shit ton of people have been getting canceled this year. Some in the news and some that are not. To be honest, I don't really understand why people feel the need to share to the world and self-incriminate.

Tldr: keep your heads low and burn that angst somewhere else

Agreed, there is a reason I’m almost always anonymous on this site. You never who who is reading and could develop a vendetta against you
