Hi everyone,
I am a third year student at UK target applying for London SA positions. I've never written a CL for finance related job plus I am not English native speaker.

Would really appreciate some advice on how I could improve/redo it. Thanks in advance!

You need to be much more specific here. Why that bank in specific. Show interest in a non-general way.

shluheshtrasse:
I was impressed to learn about Firm collegial inner culture and the ability of junior workers to work with and learn from senior staff and clients and would like to apply for the Summer Analyst Internship Programme at Firm.

Drop this line.

shluheshtrasse:
As you can see from my resume,

This internship sounds much more inline with banking and it might be better to mention what you do here. Be very specific and make sure to quantify your position and the accomplishments you had.

shluheshtrasse:
During my most recent internship at [European boutique], I was able to familiarize myself with different company valuation methods and significantly improve my technical skills working on pitchbooks and client reports.

Sounds kind of lengthy and drags on, really try to emphasize your experience and why you would be a good fit.

shluheshtrasse:
Throughout my studies, I became interested in finance and started participating in Eurasian Business and Economics & Finance societies at my university. Through organising [Business & Finance conference], I learned more about corporate finance and was able to meet and talk to leading professionals from many sectors including investment banking. I became particularly interested in the fact that a job in Corporate Advisory offers an invaluable learning experience through hard work. My last internship only strengthened my interest in finance and boosted my desire to pursue a career in investment banking.

Drop this line right here, it sounds really weird. Reword this and thank them for their time.

shluheshtrasse:
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Thanks for your response!

How would you approach this? I've seen many posts on WSO suggesting to look into recent transactions, culture etc. On their culture page it literally says "global reach, collegial culture, great exposure to firm's business". Saying that "I was impressed by [big transaction they made] also doesn't sound too creative.

May be something like this then?

I would definitely advise to include much more detail on the bank in specific because it will show that you're not complacent and that you have genuine interest. Whether that's something specific about the culture or it's a recent deal they've worked on, it'll help you to be more specific to the bank.

Try and make this more quantitative and make sure it really sticks to IB in specific. Skills used in IB and especially the idea that you see a future in it yourself. This one is better but lacks the quantitative focus that would really help you standout.

Through organising [Business & Finance conference], I was able to hone my project management and communication skills. Working in investment banking would allow me to capitalise on my research background and combine it with my interpersonal skills. After working for one year in the [Houses of Parliament] I discovered that I much rather would work in a busy and fast-paced environment. I became particularly interested in pursuing a career in Corporate Advisory because it offers an invaluable learning experience and challenging work even at junior levels.

Well thanks again! I see where you are coming from, I guess I'll just use my imagination.

Could you specify what do you refer to when you say 'quantitive' in this case, please? Is it how technical skills can be applied in IB environment and lead to, let's say, increased revenue? I just afraid I don't fully understand the concept of 'quantitive' in this context.

Your time and help is much appreciated!
