Details on JMI Equity Analyst Program?
There doesn’t seem to be much content on WSO about growth equity analyst programs and the career path. Looking for more info for on JMI Equity’s Analyst program in Baltimore/San Diego. What I know so far is that it is almost a 100% sourcing and is a 3 year program with little chance to get promoted to associate.
Looking for information on Compensation (both base and bonus), hours, culture, and exit opps. How would JMI’s Analyst program be for someone looking to be in Growth Equity long-term when compared with a mid-tier BB investment banking analyst program? Is it better to do banking first and join growth equity as an associate or would starting at JMI give you a leg up?
I feel its better to go from IB -> PE. Not sure how much value you can provide str* outta undergrad w/o analyst experience from IB.
I'd like to hear what others have to say about this as well.
No modeling at all? So you're just hammering the phones for 12 hours a day? Not sure that really translates to an investment role?
Aren’t most growth equity analyst (even associate roles post-banking) roles focused on sourcing? General Atlantic, Summit, etc
Yes, but Summit at least has a path for their sourcing analysts to get promoted.
If you can try to talk to current or former analysts at these firms like GA, Summit, JMI etc.
You'll get better color from those folks than on this forum about the level of sourcing vs. investment analysis, etc.
He said in his post its 100% sourcing, so I took that as fact, and he/she wanted feedback based on that.
A role that is 100% sourcing will not prepare you for investing.
He could be right, but i know for a fact that some analyst programs offer much more than just sourcing. Yes a big part, but in growth equity sourcing is life blood.
All I am saying is it's worth doing some primary research and source conversations with folks who have gone through the experience before.
Bump for more info on comp and exit ops
First year ~125 all in
Is that stub-year? Else for full year seems low. 80K base with 40-50K bonus? I guess if its baltimore, that would go a lot further though
From what I have seen exit opps = associate at the same fund or associate at another fund
Or work at a portfolio company
