different approach

If you already have an M.D. and wanted to get into health care/biotech hedge fund work, what would be the best path to get in? Assume an undergrad degree in finance from an average state school (high GPA), but not desire to do extra school (i.e. MBA). Would the IB path (analyst or even associate level if possible) for a couple years help or applying directly for lower level analyst work at a mediocre HF? What work experiences should I pursue to land a solid HF job? Any takers? Thanks.

thanks mikilzrd,

In response, I've heard VC's hire MDs with several years of clinical/director experience. However, I'm only a year out of completing medschool. I don't see how much added value I could give a VC firm without additional skill sets - that's why I was wondering if I should get some finance/modeling/industry skills via IB and then pursue HF or VC??

I have heard of MD's that were able to start at the post-MBA level as consultants in Bain/BCG/MCK and later went on to to VC, PE or even HF work. I've also heard that of the three, BCG hires a much larger portion of MD's (though apparently the absolute best way to position yourself for this would be get hired in Bain's NYC office, which does a ton of healthcare, though they don't hire often - less than one each year)
