Difficulties of biology major applying to finance internships w/ study abroad?

I am a biology major at a top ten university. I am premed, have a great GPA, and have been heavily involved in research. I have other extracurriculars that promote me as a strong communicator and have several leadership roles. THAT SAID, I have no finance experience, except for budget management for organizations and an investment club I started in high school.

While doing research abroad this summer, I realized I'm not quite into the premed environment. I want to apply to finance internships, and am thinking S&T and investment management. However, the problem is that I started a week ago, have done no networking, and am now about to leave for abroad where I will have limited connectivity. My questions are as follows:

  • Is it worth applying for internships/is there a detriment to me applying and getting rejected (assuming I would then apply again next year)?
  • Given these barriers (no finance experience, no networking, leaving for semester) in opposition with the positives of my resume (perfect GPA, strong leadership, communication skills), do I stand a chance to get the position, assuming I can do virtual super days and phone interviews?
  • What can be done to increase the likelihood of overcoming these barriers?
  • Are these barriers significant enough that it would be worth NOT going abroad?

In addition reassurance (or confirmation that I'm screwed), I'd also like any advice on how to make things more possible/how to get the best of both worlds and go abroad and get an internship.

Thank you in advance!

Really no detriment to applying, finance positions take people of other majors all the time since it can be taught relatively easily on the job as long as you have the other skills you mentioned like leadership, communicating, etc. Just know what your story is that you want to get across
