Dilemma btw job offers
Hi all,
I'm facing a dilemma. I have a couple offers and I'm unsure which one I should choose.
On one end there is an analyst/associate level position in the equity derivatives structuring team at a big US bank in London (for exotics). Went through 3 interviews there and had a very good feeling with the interviewers. Their franchise is growing and I feel like I could do well there. The position will be quite technical and I like that. Also it will eventually allow me to be transferred to the US where I already spent a couple of years and that would be nice too. Finally that would allow me to transition to exotics trading afterwards, which is kind of my end game.
On the other end there is a manager position in structured equities market making (secondaries) at a French bank. The position would be for a near shoring team that would support the Paris and London traders (valuations, various processes, some secondary pricing and eventually - the schedule is not yet known - handle some of the secondary business from there). I did a gig in secondary trading already and it wasn't really that challenging. I also felt like they weren't the most well regarded nor best payed on the trading floor. Finally the path to exotics trading will be closed forever, this isn't really a super technical role.
I don't know yet what the pay is going to be for both. I'd probably have a higher buying power and be able to save more at the French bank. But at the same time I don't know about career opportunities there (maybe a MBA after a couple of years?). The structuring position would teach me more I think and I hear opportunities are better at big US franchises (and this one is growing).
Finally there is the seniority level. I'd be a manager in market making (would need to hire 5-6 persons there) while I'll probably start as an analyst (or best case scenario associate) at the US bank. I'm in my mid twenties and I did a lot of other things before S&T following my studies. I feel like I'm at the crossroads now and need to focus on a career plan.
Appreciate all the answers and bits of advice.
Thanks!
L
