Dimon's spazz is El-Erian's Eloquent strategy
This here is really well-written:
Dimon's main worry, which is rightly shared by many in this country, is that by unnecessarily increasing contextual uncertainty and delaying the implementation of sensible economic policies, political gridlock in Washington has for years undermined growth, made it less inclusive, and denied many Americans the higher level of prosperity that is both desirable and feasible.
I'm sure you've heard this floating around on blogs and news articles. But here's what he's referring to in the article:
It's almost an embarrassment be an American citizen traveling around the world and listening to the stupid shit we have to deal with in this country and at one point we all have to get our act together.
How would you rate his assessment? Do you agree or disagree?
I've been a JD fan since I heard him speak at a commencement in 2009/2010. The guy seriously has his head in the right place, IMO. I think what JD means is that politicians in Washington are letting go of a great opportunity for economic growth, and there's no real mechanism for businesses to innovate / make inroads on their own due to post-crisis regulatory requirements.
It isn't a Dem. vs. Rep. issue either - it's really a lack of desire on the part of Washington in general to do anything that could be politically "icky", which pretty much every economic policy winds up being at some point or another. So long as the general public is hypnotized by information they don't understand, there's incentive for politicians to avoid touching those topics, and that's where his jab at the media came in. He said during the earnings call, when asked whether it was frustration with Washington, that it's frustration at the media he has.
Agree on all fronts. JD is sharp.
I started to reply, then said "nah fuck it" but then I come back to reconsider and you've said everything that needs to be said. not a political issue, people just grandstand and drift more extreme to get reelected in gerrymandered districts instead of actually doing shit that needs to get done, it's pitiful.
