Direct Emails from HR

Been networking recently for entry-level, first-year analyst opportunities in Investment Banking, and was asked by a connect to shoot him my resume. Shot him my resume, and he passed it to HR. I know he passed my resume to HR because someone at HR sent me an email saying they received my resume from the contact and that I have been added to the recruiting pipeline.

Is this common? Looking at this in two ways, if it is uncommon, then I am glad my networking is paying off with this firm enough to warrant a direct email from HR. If this is common, then well sheesh, have been asked by ~10 contacts to send them my resume and this is the first sort of HR direct outreach I have encountered.
