Direct Promote?
What do people think about staying on as an associate after 2 to 3 years as an analyst? any assocites out there? do the hours get somewhat more tolerable and how has the pay been the last year or so? in case i can't get a decent job in PE, i might stay for a 3rd year or try to get promoted straight to associate.
If your pain threshold is that high, by all means, stay a 3rd year and get promoted. Personally, I wish I could have two years of my 20s back...but if you want to retire by 40 and look 60, go for it!
3rd year is tough. The responsibility of an Associate with glamour of a monkey analyst. Plus, the rest of your class has moved on to a better life and you're still stuck staring at excel on the weekends. Unless you are a BFL, avoid it.
so in other words all associates arent promoted equal?? no mba vs mba...
ever try getting a job in hedge funds? a lot of HFs look for banker-types, even with only a rudimentary understanding of the market.

I was never an analyst, but I can tell you that associates at my firm certainly have it a bit easier than analysts in terms of hours. Not that much better, but better. The ability to delegate some work helps a lot. That said, it is a very tough position to be in. You have little to no real authority, a similar workload compared to the analysts, and a ton more responsibility. If the analysts f*cks up, the associate is the one who gets screamed at. At least, that's what I've seen and experienced.
Bruh if you take A2A then many PE firms will think you're set on banking for the LT
