Distressed Debt S&T Analyst

Interested in working on a distressed debt credit desk for a BB. What skills are necessary to work as an analyst for one of these desks? It seems to not fit the typical S&T desk. How technical is it? How can you best prepare? Not sure how in depth these types of desks get into the concepts in Moyers Distressed debt analysis. Thanks so much for the insight into what this sell-side role looks like!

Sales or trading? Tbh there isn’t much you can do to prepare for any job in s&t other than read the news/keep up with the markets because you learn everything on the job. For distressed it’s probably most relevant to stay on top of news around corporate rescue situations and bankruptcies. It’s not a “flow” seat per se but prices can change quickly - you need to have a good understanding of corporate capital structures, bond math, etc as well as the ability to work under time pressure. You won’t need multi variable calculus but you do need to be technical. Also I feel like a lot of distressed desks can be a bit old school and you’ll probably need thick skin.
