Do Asian Females Count as Diversity
I know that some PE firms prioritize hiring female candidates due to having smaller representation from this demographic. Thoughts on whether such priority applies to Asian females as well (given how Asians in general are well-represented).
For what it's worth (and based on purely my own anecdotal experience in IB), Asian females tend to perform VERY well at the analyst level. I know five people who fit this demographic, and even though not all of them came from finance backgrounds in undergrad, they're now rockstars at GS/JPM/BAML/etc.
As a side note, I'm also curious to know if LGBTQ+ counts as much for diversity compared to race/gender.
I would imagine Asian women rate slightly below white women on the diversity scale. Least desirable demographic HR-wise out of women, as any other minority (or trannies) will be prioritized. I say this as a half Asian who leaves that part off applications specifically because I've noticed a better hit rate when it's not there. It's disheartening, but seems to be the way this country is headed and no one seems to care how things impact you unless you're dark skinned or mentally ill now lol.
Dang, as an Asian male, that definitely hurts because I know I probably rank the lowest in priority. For HR-purposes, do you think it would matter if i selected "Prefer not to answer" for the race question? I mean, they can probably already tell from my surname, but at least that way, I'm not numerically counted on their aggregate measurements.
I can't speak to other firms, but any time I've seen an application with "Prefer Not To Answer" checked it's been tossed in the trash out of principal. At a glance it makes it feel like they're hiding something (at least that's what my VP told me).

No reason to take a shot at mentally ill ppl. These people don't really get adjusted standards in the same way other groups do. Just a harder life
Nobody cares what you think. If you are mentally deficient then you have no business in high finance. If you make the stress and workload worse for your coworkers because you can't sort out your own shit you deserve no sympathy from me or anyone else, only ire. This is the real world. No one gives a fuck about your story. No one gives a fuck about your struggles. No one cares what you're having personal problems with unless it's literally your ass in a hospital bed unable to do work. Either learn to manage your life and produce or don't and get the fuck out to make room for someone who will put the work in without complaining.
