If so, how?

If they are considering your grades over your experience, then they will want to make sure that everything matches up. They may ask you to bring your transcript to the interview, or provide it before you start the job if said company has strict requirements.
Refer to comment I made below
It's part of your background check. You'll sign a waiver that authorize Kroll (or whatever firm is doing the background check) to obtain your educational and employment info from school / past employers. They will in turn get your transcript / diploma directly from your school and verify that it matches the info you provided. DO NOT LIE about your grades, you will almost 100% get caught. When I was in banking, we had to withdraw an offer because this idiot had doctored his transcript to change a C to an A (which is ridiculous because the dude had a ~3.75 GPA and he would have had the job anyway) and it was found out during the background check.
But what if the background check is already finished and already received an offer? Of course, that would be outright stupid. I reported my actual GPA while I was interviewing and got the offer. I was just wondering how employers do go about verifying someone's transcripts to tell if it's authentic and not fake (such as editing, etc) if they even do in the first place.
Like I said, banks hire firms to handle these and they will check with your school to verify that the info you gave (ie. GPA and transcript) throughout the application process is correct. As far as I know, it's pretty standard to verify transcripts at the analyst level.
Does the background check company check to the resume GPA or to unofficial transcripts that you may have sent over earlier?
How does this make sense? Did the firm also ask him to send in his transcriptin addition to doing a direct background check with the school?
I heard on the forum that some banks don't even ask/ check for transcripts, it was about MM.

Do BBs/background check agencies review your transcript in detail? (Originally Posted: 02/02/2018)
As unethical as it is, I changed one of the grades on my unofficial transcript to meet the GPA cutoff. My GPA once I graduate will definitely be above the cutoff, but do you think they'll notice the discrepancy of 1 mark out of 20+ courses? Or do they just confirm the graduation date?
Also, what is the likelihood of the firm comparing the unofficial transcript against the official, as opposed to just verifying the GPA to the official?
Once again I don't need any comments/advice on the ethics of my actions as I know it was wrong, but what's done is done.
my name is goldstein lied about having a 4.0. Look where it got him in life! HONESTY is the best POLICY.
Isn't he dead?
They're not gonna figure it out, congrats on successfully gaming the system, you little shit.
Which BBs requested for official transcripts for Full-Time? (Originally Posted: 02/03/2018)
Hoping for some insight from those that have been through the process, specific firms would be great
Don't you worry how they do it, just know they do and it's a breeze for them once you sign off on it. You won't even be notified that was it done.
Hi Thatboyjames, whoops, looks like nobody chimed in here.... maybe one of these discussions below is relevant:

depends entirely on the bank, but most of the time no.
i did not have to, but i did have to go through a drug test and all the other pre employment requirements.
