Do I have a shot at IB?
Hi guys, I'm new here.
I live in Singapore and am looking to join an IB here as an analyst.
Unfortunately, I never knew anything about IBs until I did my master's degree in accounting as I initially entered university as a bachelor of arts student.
I did my internship in a big 4. After graduating i was planning to find a job in the banking industry in general but that was when the sub-prime crisis hit and i couldn't find any opportunities (my biggest mistake was looking only after I graduation). I didn't want to be without a job and ended up spending 1.5 yrs back in the big 4 firm. However I was not in the financial services group but in general audit. Although you really learn a lot about performing audits in the first year or so, i didn't feel that knowledge was really that useful in IB or the banking industry. I decided to quit and spend some time to plan my next move which I hope will be into IB.
The thing is i'm not from an ivy-league school. I've never had any internships in IB. Neither do I have steller grades.
I'm considering attending the Analyst Exchange program or doing the Breaking Into Wall Street Financial Modeling Program. Do you think that will help me get an analyst position? Or is my best hope to aim for middle to back office operations/accounting positions?
