do I have sufficient credentials?
Hey guys, this is what "relevant" credentials I will have when applying for an internship.
school: McGill
program: Honors in Investment Management
CGPA: 3.83
Work experience: Analyst for Capital Fund run by HIM students (actually registered as an invstment fund with real investors that can pull out when they want to), Summer Analyst at PricewaterhouseCoopers (accounting)
Student clubs: part of the McGill Investment Club
Experience abroad: Full Semester Study at Universite Paris Dauphine
Do you think this will make my resume "attrictive" enough in order to score an (or multiple) inverview at a BB investment bank in New York (M&A)?
If not, what activites can I do in order to make it more "attractive"?
Thank you!
Need work experience: the PWC accounting internship should be ok. Maybe try for PWM or boutique IB during fall semester to add some more finance experience.
Your resume looks attractive enough but you are gonna need contacts to get you an interview. I don't think they recruit at any school besides Ivey in Canada so your network and contacts will matter a lot more than the exact content of your resume.
The PWC internship is solid so make sure you can talk about your experience their and why you want to do banking and not accounting.
As far as activities are concerned, you should have non-banking/finance related activities to attract the attention of recruiters. Having finance related activities makes you look one-sided. So do what you enjoy the most in college and put that down on your resume.
Most Canadian banks and some U.S banks recruit at UofT, McGill, Schulich, Ivey, Waterloo but networking is very important especially if you aim for NY.
The big Canadian banks will post at most of the big universities in Canada for positions in Toronto and Calgary.
If you want NYC from McGill, networking will have more of an impact than most things you'll be able to put on a resume.
I would add proficiency in french, if you can speak some. Got any programming skills? Any other talents applicable to your job search add them.
