Do people really fall for these gold/"rare" gold coins info commercials?!

have you guys seen these gold/"rare" gold coin infomercials that always play on cnbc? for example: us money reserve commercials etc
is it me or is it a load of crap? anyone ever actually buy these?

Understand these commercials are for people who really don't have a grasp of finance or have a fear of the world ending. I don't mean that in a bad way, but it's always a type of predatory selling.

Very similar to techniques used in MLMs.

Flip the example, I don't know much about construction or repairs. So when I see the Flex-Seal commercial, I think it's somewhat legitimate, but it could actually be the worst product if I asked a knowledgable handyman.

Yes, I know somebody (very distantly) who invested a ton (6 figures+) into these random bonds hoping for a trillion dollar payout. It is pretty ridiculous what people believe. ironman32 hit it spot on- fear of the world ending is a big selling point.
