Do target schools matter for OFF campus recruiting?

Say if you go to a target school. Say you want to apply to an EB IB (or BB) firm that doesn’t recruit from your campus. Do you have any significant advantage over people from non-targets by applying to these firms, or does this only apply to OCR done by specific firms?

Also, if there is an advantage outside of OCR, how do you get jobs without it? Just network with alumni from your school? Apply normally? This is is regarding undergrad. Thanks.

So if you wanted to work at a bank that isn’t recruiting from your school directly. What’s your best route? Asking alumni for jobs, applying directly, or what?
