Do the middle-market IB roles pay comparable amounts to regular IB?
I continually see roles advertised as mid-market investment banking for the big 5. What are the differences in these roles in terms of hours and comp with conventional investment banking? I would assume both are lower.
Much lower, as in associates make half (all-in) of what their IB counterparts do. At least at the Big 5.
Holy… Do they at least do half the work lol?
At my bank, they work almost as much as us. Maybe 10 hours less per week on average. It’s sad
Not sure why I get so much MS when most other replies in this thread basically confirm what I said...
Big 5 in general are such a rip off compared to BB/EB/MM in the U.S.
Big 5 mid market investment banking pay is a joke. All in total comp is still significantly less than the BASE salary of an investment banking role in the capital markets team of a big 5 bank. Bonus is essentially non existent. About 65 hours a week
...
They pay is much lower, but the hours can still be demanding at times.
But if you went to a bad college or want to break into banking and have no other options, starting there isn’t the worst thing in the world.
Just work there for a year and try to lateral to a real bank, many have done it.
Agreed with the above 100%. However, true MM IB firms like Blair, Stifel, Baird, etc will pay roughly street give or take
At the junior level, MM pays more. Blair, baird, HW, PS, and Hl will all pay more than their NY BB counterparts and your dollar stretches A LOT farther in the Midwest. Granted some EBs might have them beat, but for the most part MMs win in the comp game at the junior level.
