Do you ask for offer extension or accept and maybe renege?
Hey everyone,
I have an offer secured from Company A. It’s a decent company and the pay meets my expectations. The position is a little more narrow than I’d like but it would get me out of doing public accounting work for good. The offer letter expires in 3 days, which I assume is in business days. Company A is my second choice.
However, I have my final interview with Company B on the same day that the offer from Company A expires. It’s unlikely I’ll receive an offer from them on the same day as the final interview, I’d expect an offer in a day or two afterwards. This company is my first choice. It’s a solid company with good pay, title, and responsibilities.
Is it better to ask for an offer extension or just accept the offer from Company A and renege if I receive an offer from Company B? There’s no guarantee I’ll get an offer from Company B, but I like my chances.
These are accounting positions so the industry is a little different than what is normally posted here but I thought I'd ask for some advice. I have over 4 years worth of accounting experience.
