Do you ever get to see your parents in IB?

I am looking into IB as a career and I understand that it requires a lot of hours of works and requires almost all weekends to be in the office. I have a strong connection with my parents but the only thing I am worried of is not being able to see my parents for extremely long periods of time since they would be states away. The last thing I want is to work endlessly while my parents age and I do not get the time to spend time with them. Do you think it is manageable to spend time with your parents if you have a career in IB? If so, how have you been able to make it work?

Relax man. Don’t over think the posts about 300 hr work weeks 52x per year.

You are about to be a full grown adult. Time to make your own decisions about how you allocate your free time.

  1. Everyone makes the most of our given holidays. Some years some holidays get eaten up, but for the most part pencil in all given U.S. holidays for quality family/friend time.

  2. Plenty of analysts spend available free days/weekend time visiting parents and family members. That all boils down to YOUR effort and YOUR priorities. Getting trashed with the boys and missing your train or are you waking up early to pop out of the city? Your choice.

  3. Plenty of analysts spend the occasional lunches/dinners grabbing a bite to eat or coffee with a visiting family member or friend. Earn that flexibility.

The list goes on. This isn’t f’n boot camp.

Now, if you are talking the need for 2-3 uninterrupted weekends per month sort of thing... Definitely not. Maybe consider another career and a therapist for dependency issues.
