I overheard an argument recently about this and would like some input from some board members. Person A felt that being Spanish could allow for an easier time landing a job, in that many companies have a minimum number of Hispanics they have to hire because of a diversity program within the company. Person B felt differently, and felt that not being part of a Caucasian majority could do nothing but only hurt any chances of getting into ibanking. Being a hisanic myself, I do not know what the consensus would be within the ibanking community about this, but my best guess would depend be that it depends on the varying corporate cultures within different firms. Any input on this subject would be appreciated. Thanks

I don't think it really helps. Yes, companies have "diversity quotas," but it isn't based on division. They can get away with hiring an IBD full of white guys. However, your interviewer shares the same background (or even a different non-white background), you may get an extra boost from him. In the end, I think you still have to be qualified.
Hispanic means someone who speaks Spanish, so someone from Spain qualifies. Latino is for people from Latin America, which includes Brazilians (who speak Portuguese) but not Spaniards.
