Does Everyone Actually Network?

On WSO people talk about how important networking is in order to get people at banks to push for you. But at a target school where everyone is networking anyway, how does this create any advantage in getting interviews? In reality, how many people at targets would you say actually put in the effort to network?

Remember that most of this forum is students from nontargets. The whole networking grind isnt really as much of a thing at a target, but you still need to do it. When going through recruiting, I attended the on-campus networking events and reached out to alumni with mutual friends or upperclassman who had interned at the firms I was interested in. You still need to "network" but it's less about mass cold emailing/creating spreadsheets of networking notes and more about being known/seen.

There's actually a decent amount of people who put in 0 effort and dont get interviews. It's not who you know, but who knows you
