Does GPA Matter Once You Transfer?

I have attended 2 non-targets after the last 3 semesters, and over the first 2 semesters got a 3.8 GPA and got accepted as a transfer into a much better school. Not exactly a target school, but one of the top 5 semi-targets, and at a price that can't be beat. However, ever since getting accepted I have developed a second case of senioritis. Most of the courses I'm taking now should be easy A's, yet due to a combination of not going to class, studying drunk, going to class drunk, hanging out with sorostitutes, and just overall not giving a shit, I dropped a course, and am borderline passing 2 others.

I'm currently studying for finals, with the hope of bringing my GPA back above a 3.0 for the semester, but I'm seriously lacking inspiration. I'm surrounded by morons, I got a 135 on a 3000 level economics final as a freshman, how does that even happen? This school is dysfunctional and I honestly feel every time I attend class, my intellectual capacity diminishes. The school I'm transferring to doesn't factor grades from the previous school into GPA, they just need to be a C or better and I get credit. Should I just say screw it on the studying for finals idea? Will recruiters be paying more attention to my GPA at a top 25 business school, or the one from a subpar semester at a school no one has ever heard of?

I know, I know, don't be a condescending asshole unless your at a top 10 business school, but I just can't take the level of stupidity of the people I'm surrounded by. I need inspiration and can't comprehend why such a large number of unqualified people in America feel the need to go to college. If you have an IQ below 85, are majoring in philosophy, and go to a non-target, why is the government giving you a scholarship?

I transferred halfway through college and remember being asked at least once, when I was interviewing around, for my school #1 grades and my school #2 grades. Didn't happen often, though.

edit: if you bomb finals and it kills your school #1 gpa, then you could just leave school #1 off your resume entirely and never mention that you transferred (until you're asked, or until you have to fill in specific dates on an application, etc.)

The only time your old GPA will come back to bite you in the ass is grad school (MBA, or otherwise). Uni's will require transcripts from every school you've attended, and will do their own calculation of your GPA for purposes of admission.

For a resume, you can usually just leave the old school and GPA off so it's totally how you do at the new school.

In my case I am doing a winter transfer, right when SA recruiting is so I don't have a GPA at my new school.

Is it ok for me to take my old school off of my resume and list a transfer gpa and major gpa? My old school is definitely one of the weaker parts of my resume.

Thanks for the help guys, but I don't really see myself going for an MBA in my future. I'm leaning more towards either:

A) Somehow network my way into the IBD----> Move onto a hedge fund after my 3 year stint-----> Start my own hedge fund

B) Get the best finance job I can get out of undergrad------> Get the CFA designation------> Get into ER------> Move onto a hedge fund ASAP----- Start my own hedge fund

Not that a top 10 MBA program is a bad investment, I just don't see myself ever getting more than a 700 on the GMAT, I'd rather invest the $100,000 I'd be spending on an MBA in something else, and I don't want to spend an additional 2 years in school.

I know that the CFA isn't exactly a cakewalk either, but at least the entire test is geared towards my strong points, and things I find interesting.

NOTE: Not trying to turn this into a CFA vs. MBA thread.

you COULD list both schools and then BOTH GPAs separately under the respective school....but this would make your education section pretty bulky...

Either way is fine to list both or the most recent, but DO NOT, i repeat DO NOT AVERAGE or do a WEIGHTED Average of the two. that's clearly not allowed.
