Does HR Verify GPA?
Hey,
I am currently a student in a Canadian University which uses a percentage grading system e.g (85/100%). In order to convert my percentage marks into a 4.0 GPA, I had to take the grade I got in each course, and convert it into a GPA following a specific scale.
I wanted to ask when I apply, will HR ever sit down and convert my marks from percentage to GPA to verify the GPA I wrote on my transcript, or will they just look at it to make sure the percentage and corresponding GPA seems legit. It seems unlikely that HR would have enough time to do that, so I was just wondering.
Also, a question for the USA folks who do recruitment, what do you know about the Canadian grading system and conversions?
Thank you!
it's usually a 3rd party background screen and they probably use the conversion chart you get online.
Don't worry we've all rounded our GPA from a 2.5 to 4.0.
Not convinced they actually check, even in the larger firms. Know many people who "exaggerated" or put their major GPA as their cumulative. No one has been caught yet.
I'm intrigued. What do you mean by "exaggerated"? You think I can get away with bumping up my 3.60 from a state school (think PSU) to a 3.80?
idk, just don't lie
I can confirm that Morgan Stanley checked for me during SA & then for FT aswell.
Thanks for the reply. I am not surprised that they checked to verify your grades on the resume matched up with your transcript, I am more so thinking would they take the time to convert each grade one by one to calculate the GPA.
On my transcript, all of my grades are a % out of 100. In order to convert to GPA, I have to take each grade and convert the course mark to a GPA based on a table. Once I do that for each course, I then average the individual GPAs to find my overall one. On my resume, I would have the same average as the one on my transcript, but would it be a big risk to round my 3.44 to a 3.5 is what I am asking. Thank you!
3.44 rounds to a 3.4...
3.44 to 3.5 is made to seem like a big difference on here, but as someone who reviews resumes it's not a difference maker at all. 3.5 isn't some magic number, 3.44 is basically the same. Networking, experience, extracurriculars matter way more.
Just put 3.44 and move on. Low reward, high risk if they do check.
