New Suit Advice: Colors
Hi everyone, I am an incoming first year analyst at a BB in IBD and am buying a bunch of suits before I start work. Was trying to get a sense of what is acceptable, namely on color and also pinstripes. I'm looking at these two suits from Suitsupply, and I was wondering if the first one is too light gray:
Napoli Grey Herringbone:

Also, this one is a darker grey but has pinstripes that are pretty visible, is that a no-go?
Lazio Grey Stripe

(I had to put a space before the com because I am a new user) Thanks a lot guys
Just make sure you have the solid navy and solid charcoal staples before you get fancy.
Thanks! Any recommendations for a good charcoal suit to start out?
Curious about this too
If you're looking to blend in - its got to be blue and its got to be Brooks Brothers.
Does it matter how grey your suit is? (Originally Posted: 12/02/2016)
Looking to buy a grey or charcoal suit, but there several variants. For example, you have light grey and dark charcoal. Does it matter how grey or the variant of charcoal your suit is? Can someone get away a light grey suit? I've attached an image that shows the variation.
The lightest shade is my least favorite, but all 4 of those are 100% fine.
Any shade of grey or navy (without a bold pattern) will always be fine.
General rule of thumb in the industry is to never go lighter or darker than 226/226/226 on the RGB scale. Pff..everyone knows that.
Depends on what you already own. If you don't have a dark charcoal grey suit yet, I would prioritize purchasing one of those. You'll be able to use it a lot more than a light grey suit. I've always thought buying a light grey suit is like buying a richer blue suit (not talking sharkskin cobalt here, but also not a boring old navy that almost looks black) - it's more of a personal style statement that you can get away with wearing during the ordinary day to day grind at work and not something for big meeting days, especially if you're a more junior employee.
If you're a prospect and are looking to buy for interviews, I would stick with a darker grey or navy suit.
Match it to your soul.
