Does major affect MBB recruiting in Canada?
I-Banks tend to only hire commerce/business graduates. Now I know MBB targets Ivey, Queens, and McGill. MBB only targets Ivey and Queen's commerce as other programs are much weaker. But does that apply to McGill? Is an engineering/CS/Econ student disadvantaged in recruiting against a commerce student from McGill?
Bump
Don't think McGill is a target school for MBB, at least not for the Toronto offices. UofT Engineering is a target program that places quite a few into MBB every year.
Yes, it's only a target for the Montreal office, US northeastern offices, and international ones (mainly middle east)
Hmmm, you need to realize the Montreal offices of consulting firms are predominantly Francophone because of client demographics even though firms claim the working language is English. McGill offers most programs in English and there is large international student population that comes from overseas. Even in Montreal, some of the other French-speaking universities like Concordia place slightly better into MBB.
McGill being a target for US northeastern offices and Middle East is just far-fetched because of visa restrictions. I mean you can certainly get into MBB USA or Middle East if you're a US citizen or come from the middle east but McGill won't be a plus on your resume . You can do a quick LinkedIn search on how many McGill alumni work in MBB south of the border.
Montreal is by far dominated by McGill, I think you're right about NYC offices being only for Americans. McGill's name, while not the best known, is very good in the middle east. I would certainly say McGill is a plus internationally. My main question is that does consulting firms distinguish between commerce graduates and other majors?
But so recruiting is not for business schools like finance right?
