Social-wise? Ghost-town. In terms of being able to take a nice walk and not have to weave through gawking Asian tourists (I’m Korean - chill) standing still on the sidewalks, it’s wonderful. Rather enjoying the lack of crowding personally.
No social lives. Since its not a suburban community it’s not as easy for really anyone to just casually meet up during COVID. Few hot spots are actually “open” only some restaurants. Still the same city buzz but less. Besides the cold still a very beautiful city right now and pleasure to be in
Depends on what you like about NYC. I like the way it is. Just missing when we could actually go out to bars, etc. But other than that, you can pretty much do anything. And with less people (huge plus for me). And lower rents.
I mean I'm still going out to bars and restaurants on dates. That hasn't really stopped. Sure it's not anything like it used to be, but the dating scene is still here.
Spot on. Dating and everything is still there lol people who are complaining might just be ugly. Of course bars and clubs are closed but you can still have a social life without them. I’m still having a good time, not as good as before, but I personally enjoy how less crowded things have been.
Being in NYC is much better than being stuck at home in the suburbs right now, depending on if you have a good social circle or not, as well as solid roommates. People are easily meeting up on apps, doing brunch / binge drinking at "outdoor dining" restaurants and bars in the evenings, and having lots of apartment parties. Just depends on your COVID tolerance threshold. If you aren't exposing your family and taking calculated risks for yourself, its much better being NYC right now than other cities for sure.
The news tends to amplify things of course but I think it would be naive to ignore the current trends. This stuff needs to be addressed before it gets worse.
NYC based college student - NY is definitely weirdly quiet in some parts (midtown) but other than that it's not a bad time. Lots of people out during the day, doesn't feel as dead as you'd think it would at all. Once indoor dining opens up again (supposed on 2/14) and bars are open eventually it'll be a lot better. Ofc NY will suffer imo long-term if companies don't go back to the office by the end of 2021 but only time will tell

Amen to this, as another fellow resident of this said ghost town of the Korean persuasion.

Like what exactly? Isn't pretty much everything closed

The news makes it seem like everybody’s getting raped or pushed onto the train tracks.
