Does the "tiger cub" difference matter?

There is a lot of conversation on these threads about "tiger cubs". but for firms at the same level (eg lone pine vs. TCI/whale rock/etc.), is there a distinction between a tiger vs. non-tiger fund? Same for the tier below (e.g. a $1bn tiger cub/seed vs. another similar fund with same AUM and fees per IP). It feels like there are 50-100 funds out there with some type of link to tiger, so how meaningful is it anymore?
