Does this app exist?
I am not developing an app but I could use an app with the below functionality and I cannot seem to find anything on my own.
Desired Functionality:
* You have a device that is plugged into an outlet (inactive)
* A customer wants to use the device for a specified time period ($5 for 15 minutes)
* Customer swipes card and the outlet turns on and the customer can use the device for the amount of time they paid for (active)
Anyone have suggestions? I know this is not finance related but I value the vast knowledge of this community.
Thanks in advance!
Kind of like an arcade game functionality? Pay then use the device for a specified amount of time? Just making sure I understand correctly
Yes, exactly.
Another option may be like a lockbox that you pay for and you can then open.
Let me know if you can think of anything.
I’ll look but am unaware of anything off the top of my head. Doesn’t seem too difficult to hire a Swift (assuming iOS) programmer to come up with something. Seems easy.
Square might have a built in suite that you could work with? Check them out. I know their hardware seems what you’re looking for but I’m not sure of their software.
Thank you! My hope was that square would have something but I could not find anything on their website. Also, not looking to spend an enormous amount of money.
Is there no way to do this manually? I don't understand the device but it seems easy enough.
I cannot be at the gym all day monitoring the equipment and the trainers do not seem to keep a close eye on it currently.
I honestly was intrigued by the fact that something does not exist in the space and figured I was missing something.
Oh got it. I understand your situation better now. I think it could be for two reasons:
It’s normally integrated with other apps, not as a stand alone because it has to mesh with the system (although a stand alone could just operate with whatever OS it’s on)
As such, you could probably find the code for that functionality on Stack Overflow and copy and paste if you were building an app.
I still think it’s an interesting opportunity for someone to make one if it doesn’t exist. Haven’t been able to confirm either way myself.
What kind of device?
I have a percussive therapy device that I keep at my gym and I let people use. However, other people do not take care of it. My idea is that I can still allow people to use it but individuals that pay would be more likely to take care of it.
Are we talking like a Hypervolt or something? I'm not sure the most cost effective solution is an app...would it be a problem to just not let people use it anymore? What about just having people sign it in and out?
I have a Theragun. The sigining out method of the equipment is what I currently use. However, many people just do not seem to care. Main reason why we keep it at the gym is because two of us puchased it together with the idea of sharing.
Anyways, it started as something I thought was interesting and then with everyone's responses, it really does not seem to exist on the market.
Thanks!
I know that some washing machines in Public Areas/ shared houses work like that, with a timer...
That is true, I will do some research. Thanks!
you could build this with an arduino circuit (tiny micro computer the size of a stick of gum)...and route device power thru the ardiuno. would be pretty simple to build and code. I suspect you could connect the square app to send a message to the arduino with just a number (number of minutes) and the arduino would then allow power to flow thru the device for a specified time.
Nice suggestion. Not sure I’m understanding OPs desired use case but this is entry level stuff and could easily be accomplished with a couple pre built devices and some apis
I am intrigued by the idea of making this. I would need to do some additional research but this could be a fun weekend project.
Yes very doable. Are you actually trying to make this or just wanting a turn key solution?
Would be a small project. You could probably make it in your free time.
