Donald Trump test positive for COVID-19

Thoughts? This is a bit of an October surprise if I've ever seen one. Futures swung negative almost immediately and I'm interested to see how everything else reacts tomorrow.

Politics aside, he's absolutely high risk, a 74-year-old obese man.

Best way to not test positive was not to test at all like he said. Guy also did poke at Biden for wearing masks other day. Key follow ups include

- is Trump going to wear a mask in front of everyone now to stop spread or sit in his room / closet / basement (where he actually went couple of months ago)?

- is trump going to cancel rallies that many people apparently join but told Biden no would go to his? Wisconsin already got relocated before this

- is trump going to cancel debate coming up in two weeks? Too close to quarantine period

biden is sitting there laughing so hard right now

Well Biden’s wife got on stage after debate w mask. Trump wife didn’t. Biden and wife tested negative today. Guess I’m little less retarded now but hey at least Biden was being careful unlike this crew

Worth noting that other world leaders who tested positive for COVID--Boris Johnson in the UK and Jair Bolsonaro in Brazil--enjoyed sizeable polling bumps in the weeks following testing positive. Obviously the situation is very different in this case, coming much later in the pandemic and before a very different electorate. But personally feel as if the cheers from the Biden team may be a bit premature

More like non-existent. It's easy to think that just because one side lacks any empathy or human decency whatsoever that both sides do, but no one on "Biden's Team," including the Vice President himself, has cheered this news.

I can already see the press conference: "I am so strong I have the hardest, meanest, toughest immune system there is. I don't know anyone with an immune system like mine".

Jokes aside, if he does not get very sick from it to the point where he has to cancel the rest of his campaign, I believe that he could turn this out to be positive for his polls.

I don't know... Yeah. Almost definitely yes.

Antibody tests for COVID-19 wrong up to half the time, CDC says

Antibody tests used to determine if people have been infected in the past with COVID-19 might be wrong up to one-half of the time, CDC said in new guidance. The tests are not accurate enough to use to make important policy decisions, according to CDC.

The low income attribute is funny.   I am skeptical of this POTUS to the point where I am questioning whether it is true or a clever plan to get some votes.

Same thoughts, I am also skeptical

I think more attention is going to fall on Pence and whether he is capable to lead the country. Even if Trump doesn’t fall gravely ill or have permanent organ damage, this has just shown that Trump is getting older and can succumb to disease.

First of all, I wish President Trump and the First Lady well.

Second, the guy f***ing deserves it.

EDIT: Although it looks like what went around came around for Trump, the above was inappropriate. I apologize in advance in case Trump gets gravely ill.

Karma's definitely a bitch though

Whether you like him or not, Trump is the president of the US. A time like this is a time for us to come together. If you want to argue about who “deserves” Covid, create another thread for your hot take.

Ok Prospect.

Why do you think I said this?

Also Trump's been so cavalier about this whole situation not wearing masks when he should and telling people that it's okay. People going to his rallies getting COVID on top of that. I'd say it's a fair statement.

Spooktober's only 2 days in and already throwing some massive curveballs. If he dies, the market is going to shit itself like it's contracted cholera. If he lives, those next debates we'll all be choking on the smug. 2020 just keeps on coming.

I wish I'd been doing this. I'm up handsomely YTD but could've been up enough for a new house if I'd just grown a pair, levered up, and straddled the fuck out of Tesla/Apple/Amazon.

I think the Covid news might be bad news for dems. If Trump dies or can not perform his duties as POTUS. Pence would be the new POTUS. People might be more likely to vote for Pence.

That's actually possibly true.  tRump is far more polarizing, that's for sure. If tRump died in the next couple of weeks then I suppose Pence would be the GOP ticket leader.  He's far less polarizing than tRump, but also far less visible and known. He's made a point of hiding in the background.  I wonder what would happen.

I think the highest-probability scenario is that this will actually help him politically. Of course there's a significant downside risk, but it's not as likely to materialize.

He's in a higher-risk category, but he also has the best possible healthcare. And the treatment protocols are significantly better than they were in March. Odds that he'll die are fairly low, and that he'll be hospitalized are higher but still substantially less than 50%. And if his case turns out to be mild to moderate - which, statistically speaking, is the most likely outcome- then his own experience will reinforce the attitude he's had about COVID all along. Again, anything is possible.

I see three outcomes:

- mild illness, which reinforces attitude he has had

- severe enough illness to remove him from race, Pence runs at top of ticket I believe

- severe illness but he runs anyway
