I had a pretty senior level person tell me listing Dean's List is unnecessary if you're already listing cumulative and major GPA. I sort of agree with him and think my resume looks more aesthetically pleasing without it. Anyone else think it's a waste of a line on their resume?

I got a 3.7 in UG but didn't have dean's list every semester (had 2 semesters where I wasn't, was focused too much on fractivities those semesters), does that make my GPA worse than someone otherwise identical with a 3.5 but dean's list all 4 semesters? I had Dean's List for my resume, it's better to just write Dean's List and remove anything after it. By having a 3.79 GPA, it is implied that you had Dean's List every semester.
Small thing, but I was always told don't mix decimals. Personally I think you would rather want to say 3.8 / 4.0

just an aside, this is because I never tried for banking so never had to do the standard banking format resume, but why do you do /4.0 if you're applying in the US and you went to a US school? I thought that every school uses the 4 point grading scale. I might be mistaken, just curious.
I'm an international student from East Asia, and grading's a little different in my country. I put /4.0 for applying to positions back home.
What if you are in my situation and graduated with a 3.95+/4.0 GPA? If I round up, it would be a 4.0/4.0 having a true 4.0 and a rounded 4.0 is pretty different, wouldn't you think? Though a simple resolution would be 3.95+/4.00...

Agreed. It seems redundant. A rare case you may be able to justify is if your GPA was shit for the first two years which brought your overall GPA down, but you achieved deans list for the last 2 years? So, you could not list your GPA (not recommended) and just state dean's list for last two years. At this point, you'd be trying pretty hard to make it work though...
So if im posting a 3.74 cumulative GPA is it pointless to list Dean's List as well? Don't people already assume I've made the list most if not all of my semesters.

Unnecessary does not mean damning. I personally have it on mine along with GPA and honors. However, it is under a separate area.
I don't list GPA, so I list Dean's list. My cumulative isn't all that great but I did have a few semesters where I made Dean's.
