Don't want to be a stupid intern
I'm interning for a pretty big firm in s&t this summer. I don't turn 21 until later in the summer, and if the team asks me to grab drinks I wouldn't want to do anything which could hurt my chances of a ft offer. Any advice on what I should do if this happens would be huge
No associate/vp will invite you to drink with them. Most likely you will be hanging out with other interns during your internship. This I know from experience working on the trading floor in NYC, so I've seen first hand.
Agree with mswoonc - highly unlikely someone from the floor will invite you drinking. If for whatever reason they do, they'll know you'll be close to the cut-off age, so will almost certainly ask how old you are beforehand. Also, saying you're underage won't at all harm your chances of getting an FT offer: if anything, the traders will appreciate your honesty (and you saving them the potential trouble of illegally supplying alcohol to a minor).
how about when the intern class asks you out for drinks after work
Usually the interns have their own bar they hang out at.
If you get asked to grab drinks after work you GO. You won't swoop anyone away with your talent and skills. Why not win an FT offer by being a likeable and cool guy?
hahaha no ones gonna ask you to drinks and they'll understand if ur
you can always get a diet coke to drink and if anyone asks why ur not drinking (don't worry...nobody will...they don't care) you can say "i just feel dehydrated". I can't remember the last time i was carded in NYC.
