double major in accounting or economics
after having an internship, i've realized the importance of having a strong background in accounting. Modeling and the intricacies of certain companies, I think, would have gone smoother. At the same time, I have also started to think of eventual MBA plans... my understanding is that most schools look favorable on Economic majors.
As I still have the option to do at least a minor in one of these fields, I was wondering any thoughts on both disciplines to better guide my academic decision.
Thank you
Accounting major = HAHAHHAHA
? i don't understand what's funny about that. i met a 'master' student from scandinavia who wanted to do CF and didn't know what a basic formula for turnover even remotely looked like
dukeofduke is just an idiot... don't mind him
The level of accounting you need for banking is really, really easy to learn. It's like majoring in using Google apps.
Accounting majors are for non-target dumbasses who can't learn on the spot. If you need to major in accounting because you have trouble grasping it on the job, then you must have serious problems. Clearly you aren't from an ivy lol
I based that off of another post too... and I've been told by a couple people on here that they wished they would have taken more accounting classes during college. I don't plan on majoring in accounting (was thinking about it though), but I took the HAHAHAHA as a statement towards anybody who majors in accounting, sorry if I came off too douchey but I'm sick of the attitude some people have.
And no, I am not from an Ivy, I never even applied to one nor did I care too while in high school. I'm sorry lol
edit: I've also heard that you can get a finance job with an accounting degree but not the other way around... so that's another reason why I actually think an accounting degree is a good choice for a lot of people. Safe choice for a major and not everybody's looking to make millions.
If you are a non-target, it's better to major in economics and minor in finance/math. Accounting will get you in the door into finance, but the school work is mind numbing compared to math or economics. If you want to work in corporate finance/compliance, MO, stuff then accounting or finance (economics/minor either).
I got interviews for summer internships with GS, JPM, and Citi in MO because I double majored in Economics and Accounting. I hate accounting compared with Economics or Finance. If you want to go to graduate school, then you should major in math and minor in Finance.
Most accounting majors go into tax or auditing, Few go to finance or compliance.
Hey I was just wondering how you got those internship inverviews. Did you do it through school recruitment? Connections? And how did they go? Thanks!
ACCOUNTING IS THE WAY TO GO
