I usually go just wearing khaki pants and a polo but I've seen people turn up in everything without any one really caring. I've seen people turn up in jeans and a polo and shorts and t-shirt. I don't think it really matters but you should probably go dressed at least half decent.
Business casual is the way to go

P.P.S.: in all seriousness, I've attended both target and non-target schools' events. 90% of students were in business suits. I usually attend events in nice pants, dress shirt, and tie.

Wear a suit. If I'm presenting and am wearing a suit, I want you to be as well. Keep it classy.
A lot of kids go wearing cheap suits. You gotta keep it classy and casual tho, dress like tony soprano
I recommend a suit, or, at the very least, business casual plus blazer. Most students will be wearing something similar to this, and those that don't look like they belong in class and not with business professionals (who are probably wearing suits, or business casual at the least, as well). If this were a networking session outside of school, then business casual would probably be fine (based on event descriptions and recommendations), but since it is an on campus event, I would definitely not hold back - go suit, or at least business casual plus blazer - better to be slightly overdressed than very underdressed.

I think that business casual is fine for on campus events. I can't speak from the side of a recruiter but I would appreciate a kid who looked presentable (read: clean shaven, shirt tucked in, decent shoes on) but I wouldn't expect a suit. You will be meeting with someone for a few minutes tops and I don't think they will be analyzing whether you are business casual or wearing a suit.

Between a suit and pants/shirt, either one is fine - my only other comment would be that if you notice that (pretty much) everybody else is wearing one or the other, it's probably best not to stand out fashion-wise so go with the flow.

I would agree with the previous posters - wearing a suit definitely covers your bases, and you know you won't be under dressed. If you don't want to wear a suit, I would go with a blazer over a tie. For networking events and information sessions, I always like to have on a blazer as the 3rd piece over the tie - this is, again, assuming you have opted to not wear a suit.

^Don't do it. Every presentation I've been to has been business formal. The guys who don't don the jacket or the tie stand out and look like idiots.

I just interviewed with a very casual prop firm in chicago, dress code similar to yours, I would suggest dress shirt/button down or nice dress khakis/button down & dress shoes. Do not wear a tie or suit, you want to look like a good fit for the firm.
