I don't think its because noone cares, I think it's basically because there are a few things that are generally office faux-pas in side conversation (sex and politics being among them). I'm sure both are discussed from time to time, but politics tend to illicit stronger opinions and people tend to steer clear. My college roommate interviewed at Morgan where a VP assumed he was Republican (he's a Democrat), and started making derogatory comments.

Exactly. I was kinda suggesting that we not start bashing or cheering political entities, because then we'll all just start yelling rhetoric at each other and making blanket statements and it won't even be about banking. There are tons of other webspaces for that kind of thing. I'm thinking the quality of interaction might be better if we stay on the topic of banking problems/solutions/lifestyles.

a side conversation, once or twice is a good thing. who wants to talk banking when we livel banking about 18hrs day. politics is a thought provoking side conversation. if u are a child and cannot appreciate others' arguments than dont participate in the convo.

being well spoken is not a prerequisite for being smart. i wonder how one can address the intelligence of a man they have never met. o yeah, you get it from tv clips. slick willy was categorized as "sharp" b/c he was a good bullshitter. W. is not a bullshiter and thats a good thing.

Dan, no shit. of course he doesn't think "misunderestimate" is a real word. the guy went to Andover, then Yale ug, etc. he's been surrounded by educated people his whole life.

his lack of genius i was referring to is obviously a little deeper than his vocabulary. remember when i said "he isn't exactly a strategic genius"? yeah, that has nothing to do with the way he talks.

and i agree, Dan is a presumptuous, defensive little guy. i'm done in this thread.

I'm not a Dubya fan, but he did a great job his first term surrounding himself with good people for the most part. But for now, even his fellow republicans see the writing on the wall and are trying to create distance. Don't you love politics!!!

These are the two topics that shouldn't be discussed in the workplace. We had an MD come in and straight out tell us that. His rationale was look at the wars being fought in the world and what are they usually over (i.e. christianity vs islam and democracy vs dictatorship/communism)

dubya gets the short end of every stick he has ever come across. lets face it, rummy and cheney are directly and exclusively responsible for Iraq; and when Tenet said "slam dunk" what was W. to do? I think hes a good guy, looking out for the future of america and its sons and daughters. hes not looking out and trying to define his legacy like Clinton. Hes trying to do the right thing.
