Dumbest/Worst Product you've ever seen from a company

I saw an article this morning about General Mills looking to sell a $13 box of cereal.

Just wondering whats the dumbest/worst product everyone has ever seen. Doesn't have to be from a big or small company and can be something that actually sold or didn't sell well.

LV made this abortion of a jacket where they essentially fused the pouches people would carry to the underlying leather jacket. Can't comment on sales as I don't know them, but sadly I expect a product like this to be a hit in the tacky Asian/Arab/Russian communities. Personally, if my brother were lying dead and naked in the middle of the road, I wouldn't cover his body with this.

If they were going for the currently hot "androgynous" look, then yes, I agree.

You think Wizkid is good taste
Wizkid thinks jacket is good taste

Don't toss and turn all night thinking about this, but you might have bad taste.

New Coke

It was actually a big blunder to introduce 'new coke' and the outcry from consumers let to an increased demand towards the classic coke, which eventually increased sales.

Nice one, Coca-cola...

Company: Nintendo

Year introduced: 1995

What it was: Portable game console

Virtual Boy was game console maker Nintendo's early foray into virtual reality technology. However, the company discontinued the portable console less than a year after its 1995 release, selling just 770,000 units globally. It is known as one of the company's worst failures. To cut costs and reduce battery drain, Nintendo used only black and red shades in Virtual Boy games, which bothered some users. Using the Virtual Boy also caused eye strain in some users, which led Nintendo to include an automatic shutoff mechanism.

I mean, not really that portable, not gameboy portable. Had minimial games too, and was just in red and black as stated.

Kinda the trifecta of NTDOY's misstep with the Super Mario movie and not locking up the deal with Sony for a disk game system.

Invested in a product dev/prototyping company. Sometimes they end up working with ex-dr's/lawyers/etc... that are bored/semi-retired an have way too much money to burn.

My favorite so far is someone who had them do a weighted drink bottle you could workout with but when the liquid is depleted (as you drink) it throws things off completely obviously. They brought this up with the guy right away but he still ordered a FUCK TON of product. He couldn't give it away and I guess it went to the dump. He refused to listen initially and just YOLO'd on the initial purchase order.

Zima - It actually didn't taste that bad if I remember it.

Part of the 90s "clear craze" that also birthed Crystal Pepsi and Tab Clear, this non-beer alcoholic bottled beverage was designed to compete with the successful wine cooler category. It was reportedly lemon lime flavored and astoundingly managed to stay in production until 2008 when it was discontinued in the US.

RIP

https://cbi-blog.s3.amazonaws.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/Four-Loko.jpg

This one was an unfortunate hit with hard-partying youths: booze and caffeine. It kept you drunk and wired for as long as you could stomach the dangerous beverage, which put more than a few consumers in the hospital. Maybe not technically a flop, because sales of the "blackout in a can" spiked when the FDA banned its original booze-and-caffeine formula (savvy consumers and speculators alike hastily stockpiled remaining cans) and the company released a caffeine-less formulation (currently available), it's nonetheless a cautionary tale about over-innovating (and over-consuming).

Celsius, a small beverage producer, makes the the four loko without the alcohol. Its called Celsius Heat and is equivalent to about 3 cups of coffee in one can.

easier to mix with alcohol than four loko the other way I guess.

Feb 24, 2020

That shit was wild. I remember being older in college when they came out with a well established alcohol tolerance. They went down easily without any burn so I drank two while pre-gaming and walked to a party. I don't remember the party, getting home, or anything before waking up the next morning.

Feb 27, 2020

Yeah I remember on spring break one of my friends had like 3 upon waking up (beer bongs). I ended up drunk driving him to the hospital in the early afternoon after he fell head first into marble flooring.

I wonder if his harry potter scar has faded over the years.
