ECs in college and how to stand out

Okay my ultimate goal is to get into HF/PE and I know this is very difficult. I will be a freshman attending Villanova next year, and know that I will probably have to transfer to a target to have a shot, im looking at Uva right now(in state). Anyways I am wondering from people with experience what are good things to do/ get involved in? I am playing club golf and am doing this stduy abroad program second semester where I will have a guaranteed 6 week internship at a company like Barclays. Other than joining the business clubs, what else stands out or shows my passion for business. any suggestions would be great...

wait til you get to school and enjoy yourself... if you start networking now you can break in from Nova... I met an MS trader from Nova just yesterday, so these guys are out here... enjoy school (unless you don't actually like the school or the friends you will make there) and get involved in things you like (side note... nova has a good ug bschool... i remember when i went to visit they showed us the brand new 'trading' floor run by the student investment fund, maybe shoot for that)

looking for that pick-me-up to power through an all-nighter?

Yeah you could join the equity society. You cant get in until you attend new member 'classes' where you meet once a week and taught about the basics of stocks, etc. The new members have to attend these classes for a whole semester before you are accepted. At the end of the semester you write a report, and if its decent/you attend all the meetings, you get placed into a specific group (eg. midcap financial). The society trades around $200,000, so its pretty special. It might not be worth it for you, since you cant get accepted until the spring semester, and you are going abroad and transferring.

if your serious about transferring. i would focus on getting some type of finance internship freshmen/sophomore summers. most importantly, make a connection with 2/3 of your business professors, i understand this is difficult especially in intro level business courses... but these relationships will come in handy when you need recommendations for your transfer application.

most importantly, have an open mindset dude. villanova is a great school and it's pretty reputable in the east coast i wouldn't go into college thinking about transferring. instead, focus on having fun and getting good grades. the rest will take care of itiself.

Ive just been hearing a lot about how its so hard to break into ib and HF and that many of these people if not all come from targets like wharton and harvard. I am planning on enjoying school and am wondering what will help me stand out at villanova. plus when it comes down to it villanova will cost me 50 grand and UVA 20 grand. 120,000 i can put to grad school. btw total do you go to NOva?
