EDHEC MSC Corporate Finance and Banking - Salary expectations
Hello everyone,
I am a 25 years old Italian guy who would like to move to work in corporate finance.
I have applied and been admitted to the MSC in Corporate finance at EDHEC.
I would like to know if anyone can give me an indication of what the job opportunities might be after this master for a non-French person, and in particular if it is true that the average salary after the first 3 years is about 80/100k euros.
Hi,
I am currently an EDHEC student in the MSc CFB.
Your question is a bit weird, it totally depends on what job you wanna do after. If you are planning to go in IB, your first salary will likely be between 80/100k€, but if you go in a corporate it will be a much longer way to reach these numbers.
There is no point talking about salary expectation, but employability. EDHEC is a semi-target. Only best students there manage to break into BB or EBs, but most people who make sufficient efforts manage to go in a MM bank or boutique.
Your prior experience is also very important, most people at EDHEC do a placement year before the MSc so they have relevant experience, but it will obviously be more difficult if you don't have any experience before.
What does it mean MM and EB?
I have one year experience in management consulting (operations and risk). I think it is not a relevant experience, could I be at disadvantage or it is something that could be compensated?
Yes, my goal would be to start in IB, even if it is in a boutique and not BB. My doubts are:
- Since I have to quit my job to attend this master, based on the experiences of who have studied there, could it be a good investment in term of employability and salary expectations?
- I don't speak french, I have read that without the knowledge of French it is very hard to land a good position after the study.
- Do you know other Italian not-speaking-french students that after having studied there have landed a good job Opportunity? Since italian salary are very low, I don't want to be forced to come back in Italy after having invested on my studies abroad.
Thanks for your answer
MM is Middle-Market (in that case I refer to banks like BNP, HSBC, Nomura, ...) and EB is for Elite Boutique (like Lazard, Rothschild, Centerview, Perrella ...)
I think it will be less relevant than someone with prior 1 year of internships in IB, but it can also be valuable especially if it is a good brandname.
About your doubts:
- To be honest, most people I know are the ones who did the full program with the placement year and never worked full-time before, so it is difficult for me to compare with your situation. Actually I know someone who worked 2 yrs in Risk consulting in a Big 4 and has now secured an offcycle internship at a top US BB after EDHEC, so it is possible but I won't generalize this case. (It is also easier if you are a girl)
- Indeed French market is very rough for non French speaking people, but you can also target London
- I've seen many non-French-speaking people landing good opportunities after EDHEC but mainly abroad, for the reason just above.
Thanks for clarifications.
How are you finding the study experience there at EDHEC? Do you think it is going to be worth it?
Do you want to go in IB after completing your studies? Do you already have relevant experience?
