"El Chapo Act" - thoughts?

Didn't want to dive into politics but I couldn't help myself not to share this. Ted Cruz is proposing an act where all El Chapo's assets would go into building Trump's wall. Perhaps his best proposal in the last 2 years? Thoughts?

Well, it wouldn't even need to be "El Chapo's money" specifically, but yeah to be honest the best way to fund this IMO would be directing forfeited assets (at least those related to drug cases) to building this wall.

You would have some resistance from Treasury which would lose some of the cash, but hey, it's more elegant and practical than simply believing "The Mexicans will pay for it" which doesn't make any sense.

Also, this would probably not pay for the whole cost of the wall. Figures for assets seized sometimes include property in other countries (those are frozen but govt will wait for years before seeing the money, and the US usually splits this), onshore properties/assets which can be objects of legal disputes, and, alas, drugs (estimated "street value", however you can't sell).

But still, I don't know why this was not done yet. You have the tools and (I imagine) the political will.

A billionaire could volunteer to pay for the wall and maintenance, 100% of Mexicans could want the wall, all land owners could beg for it and Democrats would oppose it because they support illegal immigration.

1) we already have a wall.

2) we have a law passed that authorizes it.

3) we simply need money. I don't know why Trump can't find some sneaky way to funnel money into building more wall. Barriers slow and stop people from coming. It's a fact. Trumps tough talk on immigration have already slowed and reduced illegal crossings. Put up more fence, hire more ICE agents, start grabbing people in all the major cities and call it a day.

And wherever this is a wall, people walk and go around it. It diverts people. More wall means less people.

End of the day this is the future. Whenever you have a rich country near a poor country you'll have illegal immigration unless you make it impossible for illegals to stay and operate here.

So I say build a wall and they start fining companies, including the guys picking up illegals at Home Depot.
