Email from recruiter --- What to expect?
I received an email from a MM bank's Capital Markets recuiter requesting a time to chat with me. This lady is in charge of campus recruiting, and I'm wondering what to expect from this call. Should I expect a more informal chat, with the focus on who I am, etc, or should I expect it to be more formal, focusing on technicalities and other topics of the like?
I have undergone plenty of informational interviews with bankers and know what to expect if it goes that route, but I was wondering if any monkeys have been in similar situations and could lend me advice on what to expect from a recruiter.
Thanks in advance.
I had a similar chat with a recruiter but I was put in touch with them through an MD. Mostly similar to an informational but I was asked a couple specifics. Why X bank, why sellside M&A, and why middle market.
You won't get nailed with technicals though if that's what you're worried about.
I'm actually in a similar spot, with being connected to this lady by and MD, so thats nice to hear.
If you dont mind me asking, what type of questions did you ask the recruiter? Like were the questions similar to informational interviews with bankers (ie. sector/industry specific, focusing on personal experience) or were they more broad questions focusing on the overall nature of the bank?
To be honest it was like seven or eight months ago now but I think I mostly asked about culture and their internship program. When does recruiting start? How does the internship work? Are you a generalist or do you support a specific group? Are you working on live deals?
Regardless, she directed most of the conversation and I know we talked about my story and my experiences but it was all pretty casual.
