Emailing large HF managers
Hey everyone--
I am a sort of amateur data miner, and, upon messing around a bit with some hedge fund data, I stumbled upon some relatively confidential contact information. Just for fun, I decided I would like to email a few of them something brief just to elicit curiosity and have a bit of fun picking their brains. At this point, I realize a number of readers probably think I am wasting my time and theirs, but I have done this before with some pretty interesting individuals in finance with surprising success (although with only one HF manager, previous bankers/risk managers/a quant or two).
Historically, I have sent extremely brief and often riddle-like or quasi-philosophical questions just to see what they have to say. Sometimes it's ignored, other times I get interesting responses that initiates a thought-provoking conversation if nothing else.
Anyway, any ideas for this round? I have researched the individuals, and most seem to be quite wealthy, largely frank, well-educated, philanthropic bon vivants. Pretty much what you might expect. What time of email would make you guys look askance and elicit your interest?
*Context: I am an undergrad at university in a large city in Europe interested in HFs/quant fin.
** Also, I realize I am not some special snowflake who has unlocked some mysterious data, but I still would like to have some fun with it.
Cheers!
